Tiye (c. 1398 BC – 1338 BC, also spelled Taia, Tiy and Tiyi) was the daughter of Yuya and Tjuyu (also spelled Thuyu). She became the Great Royal Wife of the Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep III. She is the mother of Akhenaten and grandmother of Tutankhamun. Her mummy was identified as The Elder Lady found in the Tomb of Amenhotep II (KV35) in 2010. -Wiki
Women have played a crucial role in history, from Joan of Arc to Michelle Obama. For the longest time, women were thought of as second class citizens and in some countries, that is still a major issue. We have come such a long way and we owe it to the strong women in history that paved the way for you and I.
This month, I will be celebrating different women throughout history that have accomplished so much and have changed the way women are viewed today. I've added a poll to the website, asking YOU which time period you'd most like to revisit, from Ancient Egypt to the American Colonies, The Old West to Victorian England. We start our journey in Ancient Egypt with one of the strongest women in History, Queen Tiye.
History suggest, Queen Tiye was one of the most decorated Egyptian women. Her rise to power came from her marriage to the Pharaoh, Amenhotep III. No other Queen in Egyptian History figured so prominently in her husband's lifetime. Her likeness appears on jewelry, pottery, and other sacred ornaments. It is said she bore up to seven royal children all of which held important roles in Egyptian society.
Amenhotep, Tiye's husband dedicated many shrines and temples to his wife, where she was presumably worshipped as a Goddess.
Arwen Serpente of Arwen's Creations has designed a line of incredible Egyptian costumes for those of us that LOVE the time period. Though, I must say this… I'm wearing this outfit today in Mystara. I'm a High Elven and it just works… Not only has Arwen created a beautifully textured MESH gown, but a headdress, jewelry, and neck plait to go along with the gown. I'm not wearing the Empress Train that goes with it, but it's just as lovely and looks so regal. In my humble opinion, this isn't just an Egyptian themes gown, but a royal gown fitting for any RPer that holds their chin high and struts their stuff!
